Android SoundBox Review
This little green robot may be familiar, it's the mascot for the Android OS. This particular product is available from MobileFun.co.uk for the price of £19.95. It's basically a portable speaker that connects to your phone via bluetooth, similar to the BlueNext speaker we reviewed a while back. The difference being that this speaker is themed like an Android, this is what makes it such a brilliant gift for android fans. We think at this price, the Android SoundBox is an absolute bargain.
This speaker has amazing sound quality! We thought the BlueNext Speaker was brilliant, but this one is even better. When playing music through the SoundBox there is plenty of clarity across a large spectrum of the songs, vocals were clear and crisp, guitar was undistorted and sliced through, even the bass of the speaker was quite powerful, which is remarkable for a speaker that'll fit in the palm of your hand.
The actual speaker on the SoundBox is on the bottom, so it makes sense that it comes with a little stand that lifts the android off of the ground and allows for the sound to radiate around the space. However it is worth noting that the SoundBox does sound a lot better if you hold it because the stand that is provided isn't quite tall enough and so you lose a bit of bass and clarity.
The Android has movable arms that add to the fun factor of the device and the whole product feels well made, even the small parts like the antennas feel sturdy. Onto the functions of the SoundBox. Obviously it's a speaker, however it has a few other tricks up its sleeve. You can change the volume by twisting the Android's head and you can open voice controls (On Android Phones) by pushing the head down. Another feature is that the SoundBox can also act as a handsfree kit for your car. Simply connect your phone to the Android and when you get a phone call when driving you can speak through the SoundBox as it even has a built in microphone!
All of these features make the Android SoundBox a real bargain, it's not just a speaker, but also an awesome gift for any Android fansand also a handsfree kit. The only minor problem with the SoundBox is the fact that you can't connect your phone via a lead which would be a nice function, but we understand that pretty much all phones have bluetooth nowadays.
